Amarillo Birding

Information on Bird Watching

NA

Amarillo's close proximity to several state parks, and state parks with very interesting geography, makes for a lot of birds, and a lot of birds of varied species. Waterfowl, shorebirds, woodland species, songbirds, and raptors all flock here. The Common Raven and Townsend's Solitaire are two birds to generally watch out for.

In winter, watch for the Bald Eagle, the Mountain Bluebird, the Pinon Jay, the Canada Goose, the American Wigeon, and the Prairie Falcon. In the summer, watch for the Marsh Wren and the Common Yellow Throat. And in the spring, keep an eye out for Avocets, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpipers, Golden Eagles, Northern Harriers, and Goshawks.
