Austin - Whitewater Rafting

Texas is not known for fierce whitewater as a general rule and the area around Austin is no different. You won't find hair-raising rapids here, but you will find fun, scenic runs under the trees. In the summer, the Cormac River is balmily warm and the Guadalupe is excellent for longer runs with swifter water.

Select Rafting Guides and Outfitters for a list of raft, kayak, and canoe companies in the area that offer rentals or guided trips.

Comal River Class I
The Comal River is famously Texas's shortest navigable river. It is also famously the site of the first Schlitterbahn water park. Gently running beneath overhanging foilage, this is a river well-suited to floating.

Guadalupe River Up to Class III
Take a rafting trip down from Canyon Dam for an excellent intermediate run. This river has a bracing swiftness, but not so swift that you can't watch the scenery and watch for wildlife among the trees and bushes.
