Carnival Cruise Lines carries more passengers per year than any other cruise line. Founded in 1972, Carnival offers inexpensive cruises on a fleet of mostly large and newer ships. The company originated in Florida and still focuses on the Caribbean and Bahamas, but has expanded to offer cruises in Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, New England, and now a cruise to European destinations as well. Carnival "fun ships" have colorful interior decoration, and stress a resort-like party atmosphere. Flexible dining options are offered, with everything from traditional scheduled sit-down meals to theme restaurants and 24-hour snack bars. All ships offer onboard spa and fitness facilities, flashy casinos, Vegas-style shows, and programs for kids and teens. For travelers with a larger budget, Carnival's staterooms are more spacious than those of many competitors. The Carnival fleet consists of about two dozens ships, with more new additions arriving on a frequent basis.
