In the first half of the 1900s, this was the stomping grounds of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Huddie "Leadbelly" Ledbetter, pioneers of Texas jazz and blues (and not just for Texas). The entertainment district has suffered in recent decades, but you can still find live music, if not in the same proliferation.
