Guide to Beaumont Birding

Beaumont / Port Arthur’s coastal marshlands are prime territory for waterfowl and shorebirds, gulls and cormorants. The rare Masked Duck has shown up here. The remnants of Piney Woods foliage also draws eastern woodland birds, and Beaumont may be the best place along the Texas Gulf Coast to find those east-coast Fish Crows.

The Boat-tailed Grackle is another species to look for, as are the Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow and the Seaside Sparrow. The formerly endangered White-tailed Kite nests here, as do many varieties of warblers, such as the Northern Parulas, Kentucky, and Hooded warbler. Ruby-throated hummingbirds can be found in swarms, the Least Bittern is everywhere, Swallow-tailed Kites roam the sky in the summer, and shorebirds like the White-faced Ibis and the Clapper Rail are easy finds. Keep an eye out for the Glossy Ibis as well.
