Dallas - Tourist Attractions / Parks

The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is "an educational and permanent historic exhibit that examines the life, times, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy within the context of American history," using a mixture of exhibits, films, an audio tour and more. It is on the sixth floor of what was formerly called the Texas School Book Depository, where a sniper's nest and rifle were found after the assassination.

On the outskirts of downtown are Fair Park and Old City Park. South of Dallas, Old City Park is a living history museum, preserving historic Dallas in a recreated village with restored structures. People dressed in period costumes bring history to life with demonstrations, reenactments and performances.

East of downtown, Fair Park is a sprawling, beautifully landscaped 227-acre complex, host to the annual State Fair, the Dallas Aquarium, museums and performance facilities, the Dallas Zoo, and more. It has the largest collection of 1930s Art Deco exposition style architecture in the United States.

For live music, it's hard to beat Deep Ellum, a renovated warehouse district. Located east of downtown, there are over 42 clubs and restaurants. As you walk down the streets, you'll hear everything from blues to jazz to alternative music. There are unique shops, plus you can find about any type of food you crave.

The newest addition to the vibrant Arts District is the Nasher Sculpture Center, one of the foremost 20th century sculpture collections in the world. The Crow Collection of Asian Art contains pieces from China, Japan, India and Southeast Asia.
