Beaumont is a city of contrasts - both an oil city and a city with rarely paralleled natural interest. The Big Thicket Preserve is home to enough species, and different kinds of species, at that, to be a zoo or "Noah's Ark" without any human guidance at all. The Gladys City Boomtown Museum, conversely, celebrates the discovery of oil. Museum of the Gulf Coast celebrates a rather broader history.
